Tell LG: Don’t spoil America’s Palisades

LG Electronics, a giant overseas maker of TVs and other consumer products, wants to build an enormous 143-foot office tower on the Hudson River Palisades that would rise high above the ridgeline and spoil the natural beauty of this iconic American landmark. Send a message demanding that LG consider an alternative proposal that would protect the famed Palisades.

Dear Mr. Koo,

I am deeply disturbed by your company's plan to build an enormous 143-foot tower on the Palisades, breaking forever the park's scenic ridge line. Rising four times higher than the community's 35-foot height limit respected for decades, the LG tower would violate a longtime public trust and spoil the dramatic natural beauty of an iconic American landmark enjoyed by millions on parkways, bridges and trails from both sides of the Hudson River.

There is no excuse for the severe damage LG would inflict on the extraordinary unspoiled views of this scenic and recreational treasure. On LG's large 27-acre lot, a low-rise alternative design would provide the same amount of office space and the same number of jobs, while respecting the integrity of the Palisades and a century of conservation efforts to protect the area's priceless natural heritage for all.

I strongly urge LG to redesign the office building so that it will not be visible above the Palisades ridgeline. By respecting our landmark Park, LG would be acting in its own best interest and doing what is right to protect the Palisades.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

Don’t be so small minded and so selfish. Leave the natural beauty for others to enjoy rather then building an office block.

Neither I nor any member of my family, nor any of my friends will ever buy LG products again if you go through with this – we will boycott! LG should be ashamed.

If LG goes forward with this plan, I will no longer purchase any LG products and will work hard to make sure that no one else does either. Please lower the height to previous restrictions.

Englewood and Hackensack h manyf unoccupied land that would be perfect for an industrial company like LG. Heck , they even have rail access! They have puvlic transportation like buses and trains. The Palisades does not have rail .We must change the attitude of spoil the country and then leave it a mess. It is time to recycle previous indurstrial sites. LG does not need to be on the Palisades.. There is no public transportation to it so it would be better to lcate it where previous companies have been.

This is what is killing jobs in America. A sense of NIMBYism (in this case of killing this planned LG building) then I would be very happy to have LG move their offices across the river to New York City. LG does have the option to move away from the palisades, taking away tax revenue from Englewood Cliffs, and possibly New Jersey if they move out of state. I do understand that you want to save this view, but building a campus horizontally is very inefficient with resources, as it takes employees more time to move from office to office.

Also a comment for all of you boycotting LG, please note that LG does not just make their own products. They make batteries, display panels, and computer components for other companies. If you really want to fully boycott LG, you might want to also boycott come of these companies too: Apple Computer (uses LG display panels), Microsoft Surface (LG Batteries), and a wide assortment of comapnies that tap on LG’s shoulders for display panels like Acer, Asus. Dell, HP, AOC, Lenovo, Sharp, Vizio, Sony, Samsung, HTC, and more companies that I have not listed.

Dear Mr. Koo, As a consumer of your LG products, and a resident in the area of the Palisades, I’m writing to ask you to consider building lower to the ground in the Englewood Cliffs area rather than the proposed 143 foot high-rise headquarters. Building that high-rise in that location will not only hurt the beauty of the Palisades but also produce a lot of bad feelings towards your company among consumers and potential consumers of your products. Please look into this more, do the right thing, and do not built a high-rise. Thanks for taking the time to read these comments! – Rory Stuart
